Tom Thomson memorial cairn [0]
Famous Canadian wilderness painter Tom Thomson, whose own art influenced and inspired the artists of the Group of Seven, died mysteriously in or around Canoe Lake. His body (and canoe) were found drifting in the water, and ever since, rumours abound of his true fate.
This memorial was erected by two of his close friends atop a hill overlooking the lake, on the tip of a point at the north end of the lake. Look for a small wooden boat dock on the western side of the point, then climb the hill to the cairn.
