Campsite, Sunbeam Lake

After struggling through four portages (the first of which was quite steep and littered with fallen trees) and three very shallow ponds, we arrived on Sunbeam Lake with an hour of daylight left. We agreed that there was no way we'd make it to Tom Thomson Lake that day and setup camp on a terrific island campsite in the middle of Sunbeam Lake.

This is one of the most beautiful lakes I have seen in Algonquin, and camping here was no compromise. Even the campsite itself was beautiful, with a rock outcropping and gorgeous views of the lake in all directions. It's really too bad that with all of the rain throughout the past couple of days, and being on an island, firewood was scarce, and we struggled to keep a campfire going. Cooking for the night was on the stove, and we ate large amounts of hot soup and sandwiches.
