Route Map

Our four-day trip included nights on:

1/ Faya Lake
2/ Harness Lake
3/ Provoking Lake (East)

The trail difficulty was moderate, even soaking wet, with only a few rough spots, namely the kilometre from the Mosquito Creek campsite up to the trail merge at Provoking Lake. The Western Uplands seemed to be the more difficult trail.

There is plenty of scenery, however, with beautiful lakes surrounded by rolling hills, multiple lookouts (the Starling Lake lookout is not to be missed!), scenic creeks and rivers with waterfalls, and wildlife opportunities.

A terrific day trip would be to hike the trail from the parking lot and up to the lookout at Starling Lake, about 10km round trip. This visits the beautiful Madawaska River falls, scenic Starling Lake, and one of the nicest lookouts that I've seen in the park.
