Hotdocs

This is overdue, but I'm trying to catch up on things that have happened in the last little while to document them, and so that you can all know what I've been doing!

The Canadian international documentary film festival known as hotdocs took place this past April 28 through May 7, 2006, and Kristin and I went to see several of the films. Several, meaning, about 10-12 each!

Here is an alphabetical list of the films I saw:

- Black Gold
- Ghosts of Mardin
- The Great Ecstasy of Woodcarver Steiner
- Lessons of Darkness
- Little Dieter Needs to Fly
- MAQUILAPOLIS: city of factories
- OilCrash
- Our Own Private Bin Laden
- Pas de pays sans paysans
- Shadow Company
- La Soufrière
- Total Denial
- Walking to Werner
- When Elephants Fight (Uganda Rising)

The real standouts from this list include 'OilCrash', 'Black Gold', 'Total Denial', 'Pas de pays sans paysans', and 'When Elephants Fight (Uganda Rising)'. I recommend that everyone at least see 'OilCrash' and 'Black Gold', which will truly open your eyes (even scare you) as to why oil is the force behind the world economy, and why we're all going to be profoundly affected by the imminent decline in world oil production.
