Rollin' on the river

It's been a while since my last update, what have I been doing, and what do I plan to do? Lots of canoeing!

I went on a leisurely canoe trip to Frontenac Provincial Park for the civic holiday long weekend at the beginning of August. It was very scenic and an easy paddle helped make it a relaxing time. We also did some hiking on the interior trails.

I'm leaving Wednesday evening for a four-day canoe trip on the French River, which so far looks to be very rugged and rocky. I've never paddled in this type of landscape and I'm hoping to try camping on a rocky point for the first time.

For the Labour Day long weekend, I'll be canoeing in the Barron Canyon area of Algonquin Park. Not a difficult or long trip by any means, but supposedly one of the most dramatic landscapes in the park. I hope to make some nice photos of the canyon.

Then in September there'll be a solo backpacking trip on the northernmost loop of the Western Uplands backpacking trail in Algonquin Park. This covers the Rain Lake section of trail that we didn't do on our previous trip here.

Finally, sometime in early October, there'll be a canoe trip to Killarney Provincial Park to visit the picturesque Grace and Nellie Lakes, inspiration to Group of Seven painters Franklin Carmichael, A. Y. Jackson, and others.

That's the plan for now, so if you can't reach me on a weekend over the next month and a half, chances are I'm on the water or on the trail!
