Google Maps "Street View"
» 4 Jun 2007, 3:16pm - 0 commentsExcerpt: Google has added another new feature to its Maps application: Street View. In five U.S. cities (New York, Miami, San Francisco, Las Vegas, and Denver) you can now switch to a street-level panoramic photo view of wherever you click on the map. Very impressive.
On copy protection
» 30 Nov 2006, 12:14pm - 1 commentExcerpt: Copy protection sucks. Why does it seem that copy protection only hurts the people who actually buy the disc? Pirates always find a way around it, and they can use copied discs to their hearts content, but people who actually pay for it with their hard-earned money get screwed.
Last batch of photos from Newfoundland
» 10 Oct 2006, 11:47am - 1 commentExcerpt: Finally! I've finished processing the last photos from Newfoundland. This batch consists of 20 photos from our boat cruise on Western Brook Pond.
Lightroom Beta 4
» 25 Sep 2006, 12:27pm - 2 commentsExcerpt: Adobe last night release Beta 4 of its upcoming Lightroom software. I installed the software within an hour of its release and was pleasantly surprised, and simultaneously disappointed, with the update.
Gros Morne Photos, Gear
» 22 Sep 2006, 2:15pm - 0 commentsExcerpt: Phew, it's taken me a while but I've finally finished the photos from Gros Morne, except the ones from Western Brook Pond. I hope to finish those by the middle of next week. Gros Morne was, for me, the highlight of the trip to Newfoundland, and some of my favourite images are from the park.

Newfoundland
» 17 Aug 2006, 3:29pm - 0 commentsExcerpt: We spent a week on the east coast, in St. John's, hiking the East Coast Trail, and touring the Trinity Bight and Bonavista areas. Then we spent a week on the west coast, in Corner Brook and Gros Morne National Park.

» 8 Jun 2006, 5:15pm - 3 commentsExcerpt: I've finally gotten around to integrating Google Maps into my own website, specifically the Photos section, where you can now see, on an overhead satellite image, exactly where my photos were made.
Server Upgrade
» 2 Jun 2006, 2:50pm - 0 commentsExcerpt: With the new HTPC installed and running, the parts from the old one had to go somewhere. So this webserver (which also doubles as my home file server) has been upgraded from an AMD Athlon 800MHz "Thunderbird" to an AMD Athlon XP-M 2500+ running at 2GHz.

Spring/Summer Travelling Begins
» 29 May 2006, 9:03pm - 2 commentsExcerpt: I'm very excited about all of the trips, but obviously the trip to Newfoundland is what I'm really waiting for. Our plans so far include hiking the East Coast Trail, kayaking past icebergs at Terra Nova National Park, and of course, camping and hiking in the breathtaking Gros Morne National Park.
Hotdocs
» 29 May 2006, 8:32pm - 0 commentsExcerpt: The Canadian international documentary film festival known as 'hotdocs' took place this past April 28 through May 7, 2006, and Kristin and I went to see several of the films. Several, meaning, about 10-12 each!
Apple cash grab(s)
» 17 May 2006, 12:39pm - 3 commentsExcerpt: The black model also includes the 80 GB hard disk--the only other difference between the two--but that is a mere $50.00 USD option on the white model. The $200.00 USD overall price difference between them makes the black paint job a $150.00 option!
It's official - Windows XP on Intel Mac!
» 5 Apr 2006, 11:34am - 8 commentsExcerpt: I'm having visions of millions of PC users who love the Mac culture and hardware, but don't love the OS, finally switching over to the Intel Mac. Maybe I'll be one of them!
Pinch me
» 22 Mar 2006, 4:32pm - 3 commentsExcerpt: Ordinarily if I'd have ever told you that I was sad to see winter coming to and end, it would mean I was being sarcastic, I was drunk, or you'd met my bizzarro. Unbelievably, though, I am about to say something that for the past 30 years I would never have even thought about saying... I'M GOING TO MISS WINTER.
Scum of the Earth
» 14 Mar 2006, 6:51pm - 2 commentsExcerpt: Seems that they have finally caught onto me after 2 1/2 years. I've had to implement a CAPTCHA on my comment forms to prevent spammers from using their automated scripts to flood my site with links to their usual wares (you know the ones).

» 31 Jan 2006, 12:10pm - 0 commentsExcerpt: Anyone out there have a Linux 2.4.29 kernel with Megaraid2, Intel Pro 100 Ethernet, TCP/IP networking, and XFS filesystem built in, that fits on a 1.44MB boot disk?
Myspace sucks
» 30 Jan 2006, 3:52pm - 100 commentsExcerpt: I've decided that I officially hate the site myspace. I won't even link to them here, as I normally do to sites I name. This is why myspace sucks:

Travel and Photos
» 25 Oct 2005, 5:41pm - 1 commentExcerpt: Kristin and I returned Sunday from a four-day trip to Lake Placid and Saranac Lake in the Adirondack Park area of upstate New York. Lake Placid has twice played host to the Winter Olympic Games (1932 and 1980), and it's easy to see why.
5D First Shots
» 9 Oct 2005, 2:33pm - 1 commentExcerpt: "Wow." That's the first thing that came out of my mouth when I viewed the unedited RAW images on my monitor at home. "Incredible." I'm pretty sure that was next.

Book orders, Foo Fighters
» 18 Jun 2005, 12:35pm - 0 commentsExcerpt: I managed to weasel my way into the exclusive Foo Fighters show on Thursday night at Lee's Palace. The show was invite- and contest-winner only; all I had to do to get in (besides begging) was to shoot video and stills of the concert from the front of the stage -- what a pity, I know.
Flickr, and Goings On
» 14 Jun 2005, 3:08pm - 3 commentsExcerpt: On invitation from Matthew, I broke down and created a Flickr account to host some of my photos. It will simply be a mirror of the Favourites gallery, with the intention of getting other Flickr users to view some of my images and then drop by my website to the see the full collection.

» 1 Jun 2005, 4:08pm - 1 commentExcerpt: So I scraped together four images that I felt were some of my best and submitted them, thinking that would be the last I heard of it. Two months later I received an email from the editor informing me that my submission had been selected!

New website design unveiled
» 3 Mar 2005, 3:08am - 2 commentsExcerpt: As I mentioned in the previous post, the entire site is built to web standards using XHTML and CSS, with no tables for page layout whatsoever (there are one or two for tabular data, but that is what tables are supposed to be used for!). The XHTML source should be easily viewable on handheld devices and mobile phones, and is also screen reader- and TTY-friendly.
New site coming soon
» 31 Jan 2005, 2:35pm - 1 commentExcerpt: Yes, it's true, I've been working on a new site design for pinciuc.com, and have been spending countless hours in front of the computer learning all sorts of new tricks (who says you can't teach an old dog?). The new design will be more stylized, modern, and attractive, although as they say, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
Old world, where are you?
» 27 Jan 2005, 12:52pm - 0 commentsExcerpt: If you're shooting a concert, for example, why not shoot 2 hours of 8 Megapixel images on your 4 Terabyte CompactFlash card, then pick the best ones on your PC later on? Kind of takes the "decisive" out of Henri Cartier-Bresson's "decisive moment".
Still alive
» 19 Jan 2005, 11:11am - 1 commentExcerpt: Happy New Year! It's been two months since I've written anything so there's lots to talk about it. I'll try my best to keep it brief (and to update more often).

A Roller Coaster Ride
» 14 Jul 2004, 10:08am - 1 commentExcerpt: Well our train coasted into this hill and as we were starting our way up the lift there was a very loud "bang!", the train started shaking, and then slid backwards down the hill, jerking all of us around and making loud banging and grinding sounds!
Killer Wind
» 29 May 2004, 8:59pm - 1 commentExcerpt: It was a great trip, smooth sailing, good weather, only rained once (overnight), except for the heavy, whitecap-producing, in-your-face-no-matter-which-way-you're-going wind!

Two-bowl's triumphant return
» 13 Apr 2004, 7:55pm - 4 commentsExcerpt: I was, perhaps, hours away from having to give my notice to move out. Phew! After looking around at the 1-bedroom apartments in Toronto that I could actually afford, I'm really happy that I don't have to move into one.
I need a roomie!

The flu strikes
» 21 Dec 2003, 2:20am - 2 commentsExcerpt: Survived a four day battle with the flu last week which kept me in bed for a few days eating nothing but clementines and drinking ginger ale.
B&S, Red Wings and lenses, oh my!
» 29 Nov 2003, 9:31pm - 2 commentsExcerpt: I was also struck by just how "normal" the entire band appeared: no rock and roll haircuts, no leather jackets or pants, and no wild stage antics, just a crew of talented musicians who look like they were plucked from a high school concert band. Made me feel like I could play for them!
Back online
» 29 Nov 2003, 11:17am - 0 commentsExcerpt: I apologize to the throngs of pinciuc.com visitors (hah) who had to live without their daily dose for three whole days. Direct all complaints to Linksys technical support!
Boredom strikes (my pocketbook)
» 7 Nov 2003, 3:46pm - 1 commentExcerpt: ...down the road when all's been said and done, who knows? Maybe I'll be working on the next Sloan website, that'd be alright. Maybe I won't be working at all (not cool).
Is bad press better than no press?
» 22 Oct 2003, 10:47pm - 6 commentsExcerpt: After hearing this little solo three or four times, let me tell you, I was about ready to snuff my own little light right out with my trusty Swiss army knife.
